Gum disease also known as periodontitis is a largely preventable disease.
Sadly sometimes, despite every best effort it will continue to progress and the teeth will be lost.
By following the advice below can prevent tooth loss from gum disease.
- Reduce your risk of gum disease
Reducing the risk factors where possible can really help reduce the effects of gum disease.
* Smoking- Give it up!
* Plaque retentive factors- Make sure there is nothing in your mouth that is preventing proper cleaning of your teeth.
* Look after yourself- By having a good immune system, this will fight off disease. Be healthy by eating well and exercising.
- See a dentist or hygienist
Your teeth and gums are checked at your dental hygiene visit every 6 months. The earlier gum disease is detected, the sooner treatment can commence and the better the prognosis. Don’t leave it until it’s too late.
